That long-awaited $118 billion bill from the US Senate has been released and it’s a doozy, filled with lots of throw-away cash for foreign adventures and a massive free pass for the continuing surge at the border. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said it would be “dead on arrival” in the House.
The 370-page bill is primarily intended to throw away billions on our current proxy wars, including $60 billion for Ukraine, $14.1 billion for Israel and — as seed money for Joe Biden’s upcoming war for Taiwan — $5 billion. As a sop to the clueless Senate Republicans who support it, it allocates $20 billion for “border protection.”
That so-called “protection” includes a big, wide loophole that permits up to 5,000 illegal migrants to enter every day and closes only when the numbers exceed that number. As Johnson added on X,
I’ve seen enough. This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, “‘the border never closes.”
House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) told Fox News Digital, “At first glance, this ‘deal’ is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is a Ukraine border deal, not a U.S. border deal.”
Not all Senate Republicans support the bill, of course. One opponent, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), on Sunday called for Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to be replaced as Senate Republican leader for his role. He went on:
This feels like an elaborate practical joke. But it’s not funny. Not one bit. I cannot understand how any Republican would think this was a good idea – or anything other than an unmitigated disaster. WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP — NOW.
