The Irish Protest

Thousands of Irish nationalists marched in Dublin on Monday to protest the mass immigration that is beginning to overwhelm their country. In 2006, 420,000 immigrants lived there. Today the total is more than one million, or 20 percent of the population.

A recent poll found that 80 percent of the Irish people think that the rate of immigration is excessive. Nevertheless, the political and economic elites of Ireland, as in most Western countries, are indifferent to public sentiments about immigration. Often they claim they are upholding “democracy” when they ignore what non-elite commoners think.
