Nearly 10% of NJ Residents Are Illegal

The state of New Jersey has about 9.3 million residents. Of those, about 892,000 (or roughly 7-8 percent) are in the US illegally. These are the findings of a report issued yesterday by NJ Republican Assemblyman Paul Kanitra. Here are some of the study’s other findings:

  • In 2023, the state spent $15.7 million defending illegal aliens in court.
  • Overall, Kanitra estimates NJ taxpayers pay about $27 million every year to house illegal aliens.
  • Under Democrat Governor Phil Murphy, the state announced the Excluded New Jerseyans Fund, seeding it with $40 million, then later adding $20 million more. Within eight months, more than half the $60 million total had been spent on direct payments to illegals.
  • Each New Jersey household spends about $2,100 every year for the privilege of hosting the state’s illegal aliens, and every employed person pays an average of $1,600 annually.
