Dreamers Now “Model Citizens”

The Left in this country, as it usually does regarding most issues, has tied itself into knots trying to come up with approved terminology to use in referring to “illegal aliens” or “illegal migrants” — words, that is, in place of those perfectly apt terms the rest of us use. In their never-ending quest, they’ve tried various expressions they hope are fuzzier and friendlier and above all more inclusive, such as “undocumented immigrant” or “irregular immigrant” or, more recently, simply “newcomer.” Now, Joe Biden, in an effort to go all in on the issue, has begun to use a new term to describe the hundreds of thousands of persons targeted by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which gives effective amnesty to any illegal alien brought here as a minor, regardless of how old he or she might nowadays be.

On Sunday at the White House, in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Biden gushed about his support for DACA and his attempts to harness that program to another creation of Barack Obama:  Obamacare. This, Joe hopes, will not only cement the Dreamers’ foothold in America but also provide them with health insurance. Speaking of DACA, Biden told the attendees at the May 5 reception:

It’s given 800,000 DREAMers a chance to go to work and school, contribute their immense talents in America. But more than a third of DREAMers couldn’t get health insurance. It’s wrong. And this rule changes all that. DREAMers can now get health insurance, as they deserve.

My first day in office, as I said, I sent a comprehensive immigration reform bill to Congress. It expands legal paths for entries for families and employers. It includes pathways to citizenship for DREAMers in the only country that they ever called home.

I love it when people say, “Why DREAMers?” Can you imagine a kid, two years old, saying, “Mom, don’t take me across the Rio Grande; it’s against the law”? Give me a break. These have been model citizens. [Emphasis added]

“Model citizen,” we are expected to believe, describes each and every one of the roughly 800,000 illegals now eligible for DACA. We bet Mexico (which has provided the vast majority of Dreamers, about 618,000) would be glad to have them back in that case. Instead, the American taxpayer gets the honor of paying out about $26 billion over the next decade to maintain them, along with about $31.25 billion for 10 years of secondary education in American schools.

It’s amazing how the world’s unwashed become paragons of virtue simply by sneaking across our border.
