Friedrich Merz heads the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), a political party in Germany. He recently charged that many of the 1.1 million Ukrainian migrants in Germany are practicing “welfare tourism” to enjoy the generous benefits offered there.
He said he finds it strange that they will periodically return to the country they supposedly needed to flee. Merz stated, “We are now experiencing welfare tourism from these refugees [who go] to Germany, back to the Ukraine, to Germany, back to the Ukraine.”
