Florida Sea Surge Heats Up

Officers of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), along with local, state, and federal authorities, on Sunday, April 19, arrested 30 illegal aliens plus a couple of alleged human smugglers near the Florida coast.

Around 2:30 p.m., the FWC crew interdicted a 60-foot yacht containing 30 Haitian nationals. All were taken into custody and turned over to the Coast Guard. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the interdiction on Twitter, saying:

Because of our efforts in South Florida, we are ensuring illegal aliens are turned away for repatriation before they reach the mainland. Since January of 2023, our efforts have led to the interdiction of more than 14,000 illegal aliens.

Last month, FWC officers interdicted another vessel carrying 25 illegal immigrants from Haiti. Gov. DeSantis described that occasion this way:

In their boat, in their vessel, they had firearms. They had drugs. They had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly which would potentially endanger other folks. And those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation. So our folks have been doing this before we augmented this, and they’re gonna continue to do it.
