Immigration Promoters Aren’t Underdogs

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“Recently I traveled to Washington D.C., as one of 10 students involved with Define America, the student group that aims to amplify the voices of the immigrant community in our country.

“The purpose of our trip was to meet with representatives and senators in Washington to lobby for immigration reform. We sought to do this by holding these elected officials accountable for past promises – and by pushing them to support or oppose certain bills.

“It seemed simple: We were going to engage in difficult conversations and walk out feeling hopeful about the future. But we could not have been more wrong. What we encountered instead was a widespread sense of defeat. . . . The responses caused the morale of our group to wane with each meeting we held.

“The staffer we spoke to from Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s office gave us the most honest, if disheartening, feedback of the whole trip. Yes, there are bills being introduced to support immigration reform, she said – but no, there is no confidence that anything will change. Because there has been no real immigration reform in decades, the time and effort needed to implement proactive policies is now being drained away by urgent attempts to stop the continued undermining of immigrant rights. . . .

“It is time we stop looking at Hispanic immigrants as statistics. These are human beings who possess the same fears and aspirations shared by all groups of people. They are individuals who are willing to travel thousands of miles despite knowing they will face mistreatment in a foreign country – and they do so because they also know the conditions at home are far worse. That’s why as long as the problems in Central and South America persist, people are going to keep coming to the United States.

“It’s hard to blame someone for doing everything possible to make a better life for themselves and their families. You would likely do the same. So I urge you to stand up for immigration reform. It will be a difficult process, but it will only be harder and longer if those of us who yearn for change accept defeat. . . “. – We Can’t Accept Defeat in the Fight for Immigration Reform, Sofia Cava, Yahoo!News, 4/11/23 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: Like many mass immigration advocates, this writer strikes the pose of a brave underdog standing up to a world stacked against her beliefs and goals. The reality is quite the opposite. These advocates serve as spokesmen and lackeys of the powerful interests that reap profits and political clout from unchecked immigration.

This writer, Sofia Cava, claims that failure to pass “reform” reveals the sad plight of her cause. This usage of reform by immigration advocates typically means amnesty for all or most of the 11 million illegal aliens in the U.S., and even higher levels of massive legal immigration.

No, these advocates don’t yet have everything they want, but they have far more edge and advantage than immigration control supporters. The Biden Administration has given this writer and her allies a splendid gift of a border slipping out of control. With our laws twisted and ignored, illegal immigration has surged to record levels in the past couple of years. Cava seems to think that Hispanic migrants face discrimination. Actually, this is true, but not in the way she intends. They benefit from not having to obey U.S. laws, a privilege that citizens don’t enjoy.

Cava repeats the tired old line that we must open our borders wide because the migrants are coming for “a better life.” This manipulation of sympathy leaves unanswered the key question of just how many “huddled masses” the U.S. can absorb before “diversity” submerges us and erases our historic national character. The interests of profit and power don’t want this question to come up, and they make sure that their journalist front-men have good incentives to keep it under wraps.

It would be nice to have a national dialogue on the impact of endless immigration on the tired huddled masses of middle-class and working-class Americans.  Our elites keep telling us that we are a “democracy” That being the case, it would be nice if the majority could have some so say-so in how the country is run.
