Illegal Migrants Apprehended on California Beach

In addition to the migrant apprehensions on land that we’ve been reporting on, maritime encounters and arrests continue apace. On January 21, for example, a Coast Guard patrol discovered a “panga” boat off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. The boat, loaded with 15 illegal migrants, made landfall on the beach at the town of Goleta. The passengers scattered, but after a five-hour chase officials managed to round them all up.

The group of 11 males and four females consisted of two Venezuelan nationals and 13 Mexicans. None having required documentation, all were transported to a Border Patrol Station for processing.

Although President Biden had promised a pause in deportations for the first 100 days of his administration, so far the CBP continues to allow removals under the Title 42 Coronavirus protection protocols of the CDC. These removals on average require only a couple of hours to return apprehended aliens to Mexico. Presumably, the hapless wayfarers in this instance were soon deposited back there as well.
