Courts Rule on Texas Law

A federal judge blocked enforcement Senate Bill 4, a law passed by Texas to allow state law enforcement officers to arrest and detain suspected illegal aliens. Judge David Alan Ezra maintained that Texas has no right to do the job of federal immigration law enforcement. He didn’t address the issue of what options states might have if the federal government doesn’t perform that duty.

Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott immediately appealed the ruling, stating that “We will not back down in our fight to protect our state — and our nation — from President Biden’s border crisis.” In response, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals put a temporary stay on Ezra’s decision. The case may eventually go to the Supreme Court.
