Astonishingly, the new Biden government is acting as a partner with Mexican smugglers to bring huge numbers of “Unaccompanied Alien Children” into the United States.
The Axios website reported yesterday that the Biden Department of Homeland Security is expecting to admit a whopping 117,000 such UACs, most of them teenagers, during 2021. Such a number would be well above even 2019’s record total of 76,000.
In case you’re wondering, those children and adolescents don’t make it to the border and beyond all by themselves. They are brought there by human smugglers, or coyotes, who are paid millions each year by relatives already in the United States to bring them in. Once across the border, the young migrants are handed over to DHS officials, who process and house them before arranging the final leg of their journey to their families elsewhere in the U.S.
Finding enough beds to house their new charges is proving to be the first immigration crisis of the new administration, which is already running out of space in its border facilities.
The unofficial partnership between the U.S. government and Mexican smugglers was made possible in 2008 by the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, which directed federal agencies to send underage migrants to “sponsors” [almost always relatives] into the country, instead of returning them to Mexico. Since 2010, more than 300,000 such migrants have been escorted by coyotes through the cartels’ roadblocks and passed to U.S. officials north of the border. During the Trump administration, efforts were made to return the migrants to Mexico, but most of those measures have now been abolished by Joe Biden.
Breitbart News notes that in 2013 a federal judge explained how border agencies helped smuggle a child from El Salvador to her mother in Virginia, after the mother paid $8,500 to a smuggling ring.
“Instead of arresting Salmeron Santos for instigating the conspiracy to violate our border security laws, the DHS delivered the child to her — thus successfully completing the mission of the criminal conspiracy. It did not arrest her. It did not prosecute her. It did not even initiate deportation proceedings for her. The DHS policy is a dangerous course of action,” the judge wrote.
Now, Biden’s government wants to increase the number of such cases exponentially.
