Senators Introduce Pro-ICE Resolution

Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and David Perdue (R-GA) have introduced a resolution in the Senate, "Opposing the targeted harassment of U.s. Immigration and customs Enforcement officers and employees and reaffirming the fundamental principle that public services should be provided without discrimination."  The National ICE Council, the union representing ICE employees, thanked the senators for the resolution and noted that "National security, or even basic border security, does not exist without the interior enforcement of a nation’s immigration laws, as the horrific events of 9/11 and indeed terrorist attacks worldwide have proven. With over two million criminal aliens estimated to be currently residing in the U.S., our jails and prisons are already dramatically overcrowded, and local police are often overwhelmed, begging for ICE and its resources to assist in making our communities safer. Those calling for the abolishment of ICE don’t understand the significant threat to our nation’s security and the safety of American communities that their ideas present.”

Rep. King Warns of Violence

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) stated that continued high levels of immigration from Central and South America will jeopardize the safety of Americans. He noted that "[Nine] of the most violent countries in the world [and] sixteen of the top 20 are south of the Rio Grande. [Eighty-one percent] who cross the border illegally are young men. Young men in every society are the most violent segment. Importing millions of this demographic means death for Americans."

Trump Attacks ‘Abolish ICE’

President Trump took at the movement to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency that does interior enforcement of immigration law. Prompting this movement is the president's policy of having ICE enforce the law more aggressively than in the past. ACLU Sues Administration on Asylum

The radical-left American Civil Liberties has sued the Trump Administration for its "expedited removal" asylum policy. The administration affirms the traditional standards of asylum, admission on the basis of a "credible fear" of persecution on the basis of race, religion, nationality, social group, or political opinion. The ACLU wants asylum include people seeking to flee high crime rates and domestic violence. Critics maintain that this expansion would dilute the concept and meaning of asylum.

Sessions to DOJ: Cut SPLC Ties

The Justice Department sometimes works with the radical left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an organization that generally labels support for immigration restriction as "hate." Attorney General Jeff Sessions says the time has come for this collusion to stop. He  noted that the SPLC uses hate designations "as a weapon [to] bully and intimidate" individuals and groups it doesn't like. " Critics have described the SPLC as a neo-communist organization.

Yoder Invites Mass Migration

Peter Kirsanow, a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, strongly criticized the amendment to the 2019 spending bill authored by Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS). Yoder's amendment would reverse the asylum reforms of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and reinstitute the Obama Administration policy of releasing illegal aliens with their promises to show up for asylum hearings. Kirsanow affirmed that the amendment would encourage "massive waves" of foreigners to enter the United States and thereby depress wages of poor American workers.

Taxpayers Mostly Fund Refugee ‘Volags’

The U.S. refugee resettlement involves "charitable" organizations called "volags" (voluntary agencies). A study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) notes that these organizations have a vested financial interest in increasing refugee resettlement. Despite their name, most of their funding is not voluntary. Very large shares of their funding comes from American taxpayers.     The study notes that "These volags are funded, for the most part, by the U.S. government. Government funding ranges from a low of 58.5 percent to a high of 97.3 percent.  .  .  . Yearly compensations for the heads of these organizations range from a low of $132,000 to a high of $671,749."
