Senate Passes Liberian Amnesty

The Senate has passed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Attached to the bill was an amnesty and a path to citizenship for approximately 1,000 Liberians. This provision has nothing to do with national defense. The Liberians were here under an immigration law provision which allowed them to stay in the U.S. temporarily while warfare was going on in their country. Last year the Trump Administration told them to return home because the situation there was no longer dangerous.
