Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ): Border Problem Worsens in 2022?

After a trip to Yuma, Andy Biggs, a Republican Congressman from Arizona, has told Fox News that the border situation may worsen next year if the Biden administration does not take steps. Describing the border in Yuma as “overrun,” Biggs said:

You see it’s just absolutely open, and you know what’s happening in Yuma is what’s happening in Del Rio, same thing happening in the Rio Grande on a daily basis.

In November, according to Fox News, agents reported 173,620 encounters with illegal migrants, an increase of 140 percent from the same time last year. And the November total was an increase of nearly 10,000 over October’s. During a single week in December, agents counted more than 6,000 illegals crossing through Yuma.

On his visit, Biggs witnessed groups of 30 or 40 migrants walking in at a time, coming in primarily through existing gaps in the border wall and fence. “It’s the gaps,” he said, “it’s the gaps where you see this happening.” The Biden adminstration has discontinued all work on the wall, which President Trump had championed.

Biggs believed the problem could be alleviated by completing construction of the border wall, ending “catch-and-release,” and returning more illegal migrants to their home countries. “[A]s soon as you start sending people back home, it just dries up a substantial amount of the traffic immediately.”

Of course, one has to want to dry up the traffic, and that clearly does not describe Joe Biden and company.
