By a nearly two-to-one margin, most Americans believe legal immigration should be decreased rather than increased, according to a Gallup poll released Friday. 41% say immigration should be decreased, 22% believe it should be increased, and 33% say to keep it at present level.
The split is most pronounced among Republicans, with 50% saying legal immigration should be decreased, and only 14% wanting an increase. Among Democrats, the split is 32 to 27 percent.
