DHS Will End ‘Remain in Mexico’

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will move quickly to end former President Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program, also known as “Remain in Mexico.” MPP helped to prevent fraudulent asylum claims by migrants by requiring them to remain in Mexico while their claims were being considered. Previously they crossed into the U.S. illegally, made an asylum claim, and then–quite often–they vanished into the U.S. interior.

DHS was able to take its action because the Supreme Court ruled on June 30th that it had the authority to end the program.
