Boehner Mocks House Immigration Patriots

House Speaker John Boehner theatrically mocked his fellow Republican congressmen for being afraid to reform immigration policy. . . . “Here’s the attitude,” said Boehner, “Ohhh. Don’t make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard. We get elected to make choices. We get elected to solve problems, and it’s remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don’t want to do [that].” – Cincinnati Inquirer 4/24/14

Fact Check: Actually congressmen are elected to represent their constituents. They are supposed to solve problems and make choices with at least some reference to what those constituents want. Immigration “reform” is not high on the public’s list of priorities. In fact, want pundits now call reform – amnesty for illegal aliens and sharp hikes in legal immigration – is not reform at all.

Amnesty weakens our country’s rule of law, which most voters want Congress to uphold, and more legal immigration brings more cultural division and more job seekers to compete with 20 million Americans who can’t find a full-time job.

Nevertheless, apparently, there are some people that Boehner does want to represent, namely political donors that want a steady stream of cheap foreign labor. The Wall Street Journal reported that Boehner went to a fundraiser in Las Vegas attended by gambling magnate Sheldon Adelson and other GOP donors. Adelson, a multi-billionaire, is a staunch supporter of amnesty. At the meeting Boehner stated that he was “hellbent on getting [immigration reform] done this year.”

Some commentators have remarked that “hellbent” is a good description of his goal, one lacking in scruples and patriotism. Fortunately, there are members of the House who are not so inclined. These are the individuals that Boehner was mocking with his childish impersonation.

Apparently they are not taken in by his statements that the House should not act on amnesty/mass immigration legislation until the Obama Administration shows at least some willingness to enforce immigration laws now on the books. That has not happened, and the administration now seems even less inclined to do so than ever. Boehner, however, really doesn’t seem to care because his agenda all along has been to pass immigration “reform” no matter what. The Journal article also said that Republican leaders, presumably including Boehner, want to move immigration “reform” through the House sometime this summer.

After his mockery performance, Boehner lamented that “I’ve had every brick and bat and arrow shot at me over this issue just because I wanted to deal with it.” Patriotic citizens must hope and pray that the bricks, bats, and arrows will keep flying.
