Fact Check of Above Quote: As the disaster of Joe Biden’s immigration policy unfolds in public awareness. illegal alien advocates are scrambling to do damage control. One way is to claim, as Navarrette does, that Biden has scarcely relaxed immigration law enforcement at all. As evidence for this absurd claim, Navarette cites the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy. That policy under Trump successfully stemmed the flood of illegal aliens coming to the U.S. with phony asylum petitions. Contrary to Navarrette’s assertion. our system is not “rigged” against asylum seekers. Most of the applicants simply don’t qualify.
Shortly after he became president, Biden ended “Remain in Mexico.” But a federal court ruling forced him to reinstate it. Navarrette is upset about this, but Biden had no other choice. Nevertheless, Navarrette shouldn’t feel too badly.The reinstatement was as half-hearted as possible with significant loopholes to keep the program from succeeding as it did under Trump.
As an illegal alien advocate, Navarrette can find much to applaud in the Biden Administration’s policies. One is hamstringing the Border Patrol so that it spends much of its time processing and releasing illegal aliens, instead of securing the border. As a consequence, last year saw a record number of illegals entering the U.S. To hobble interior enforcement, the administration has declared that unlawful residence in the U.S. is not sufficient reason to arrest and deport illegal aliens. Also, the administration has designated an increasing number of places where illegals cannot be arrested. Not surprisingly, deportations have sharply declined.
Navarrette is quite foolish if he thinks he’s fooling anyone about the state of immigration law enforcement under Biden. Illegal alien advocates know it’s bad, and they want it to get worse.
