Immigration advocates claim that we must import foreign workers because we face a “labor shortage.” What they fail to note is that automation is rapidly filling jobs once done by humans. A recent article the Wall Street Journal observed that orders for automated technology and robots increased 40 percent in the first quarter of 2022, following a 21 percent increase in 2021.
A professor at MIT stated that “Automation . . . can destroy a lot of jobs. The labor shortage is not going to last. This is temporary.”
