Bill Melugin of Fox News has tweeted a series of videos showing a seemingly endless flow of illegal migrants crossing the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas. Melugin said the surge, which occurred yesterday, July 13, was “one of the most massive single groups we have ever witnessed.”
Melugin said only one Texas National Guard Humvee was on the scene when the group, which he described as consisting of “hundreds upon hundreds,” began arriving early in the morning, with the Border Patrol nowhere to be seen.
The crossing occurred near Eagle Pass, Texas, a favorite spot in the border’s Del Rio sector for coyotes to guide their clients across. Official figures for Wednesday’s surge were not available, but federal sources told Fox News that there had been 2,258 illegal crossings in that sector on Tuesday. Over just the past week, more than 13,000 illegal crossings have been recorded in the sector. Across the entire border there were more than 239,000 illegal migrant encounters in May. Numbers for June have not yet been released.
