American Immigration Council (AIC), a business-backed pro-migration advocacy group. Recently it expressed concern that wages for workers are rising in the meat and dairy industries. The majority of those workers are native-born Americans. AIC’s solution for this “problem” is to bring in more foreign workers on temporary visas.
Rosemary Jenks, the director of government relations for NumbersUSA, minced no words against this proposal: “It’s despicable this organization would demand that the federal government reduce Americans’ wages by importing additional foreign labor.” This means, she added, that “we have to support the Americans whose wages have been cut, and . . . support the [low-wage] foreign workers. . . . It is just beyond me how [AIC] can have such disregard for their fellow Americans.”
