Fact Check: Navarette tries to present himself as a voice of moderation on immigration. But this is a ploy to disarm Americans who want reasonable levels of immigration and the enforcement of our immigration laws, people Navarette disparagingly describes as “nativists.” Like many Latino advocates, he gives lip service to such steps as securing the border, but then turns around and opposes any effective steps to bring about that goal.
He sees illegal immigration as a means to change American politics. When illegal aliens were conducting mass demonstrations for amnesty, Navarette stated it was “good they are expressing themselves.” He also said it was “good civics” for illegal aliens to get legal status, become citizens, and vote. Why it is good civics to reward lawbreakers he didn’t explain.
Also, his racial/ethnic agenda was quite evident when he proclaimed, “The Hispanic century is upon us—and influencing everything from food to fashion, politics to pop culture. . . . There are more than 44 million Hispanics in the United States, and the Census Bureau estimates that—by 2050—we’ll represent one in four Americans . . . despite the efforts of nativists to keep out both legal and illegal immigrants to turn back the demographic clock. . . .”
Commenting on this statement, patriotic immigration reformer Allan Wall asked, “Why is it that Hispanic activists can publically gloat about the proportionate growth of their demographic—which of necessity implies the reduction of others—and they aren’t called racists?”
A very good question. Navarette and others his ilk want to lull Americans of other backgrounds into accepting their agenda. There’s not much anyone can do about it” Oh really? American citizens who care about fair play and the rule of law can do plenty.
