Wire Fence Gets Results: Migrant Crossings Plummet

That miles-long fence of stacked concertina wire installed over Christmas is having an effect on illegal migrant crossings in the El Paso area.

Texas National Guardsman 1st Sgt. Suzanne Ringle said: “The difference is vast. The 19th, the 20th and the 21st we had large groups of families and individuals who were wanting to come across. Now, it’s almost a ghost town out there.”

Sgt. Ringle noted that, in addition to the razor wire, other factors inhibiting would-be illegal migrants were such visual deterrents as parked Humvees and 600 soldiers patrolling the area with semi-automatic rifles. What’s more, to bolster their fence-building efforts, the Guardsmen also installed 10 shipping containers Tuesday on the U.S. bank of the Rio Grande. These containers, which are nothing more than huge, sealed, empty boxes, are similar to those installed in November by the state of Arizona in the Huachuca Mountains. In the latter case, the federal government sued, claiming the state had no authority over federally owned land.

Given the neglect and outright flaunting of U.S. immigration laws by the Biden administration, the only things standing in the way of the complete swamping of our borderlands are bold governors like Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona. Long may they flourish.
