Refugee Agencies Fight Trump Plan

Refugee resettlement agencies, which are private organization largely funded by the government, want to keep on deciding where refugees are resettled in the United States. They strongly oppose the Trump Administration’s plan to allow states and local communities to decide whether they want refugees.

The head of one of these agencies, Mark Hetfield of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, believes that it is “unacceptable and un-American” for state and local governments to have an effective say-so over resettlement.
