Nothing New in ’22: Just More of the Same

If you’ve looked at the CIS.org predictions that we pointed to yesterday, you’ll notice a common refrain. The border problems and problems with immigration and illegall migration will “continue.” The problems will just “increase.” No surprise there.

Today, there’s just more of the same. Breitbart News is quoting the chief Border Patrol agent in the Del Rio Sector in Texas to the effect that 2,200 migrants were intercepted crossing the border there during the New Year’s weekend alone. During just the first two months of Fiscal Year 2022, which began on October 1, 2021, Del Rio agents apprehended nearly 58,000 migrants, an increase of nearly 239 percent over the same period one year earlier.

Elsewhere, Mayor Douglas Nicholls of Yuma, Arizona, another border hot spot, tells Fox News that illegal migrant encounters there are up more than 2,405 percent this fiscal year. Mayor Nicholls, who has declared a state of emergency, says the level of illegal border crossing has extended beyond the capacity of the Border Patrol and other agencies to perform border security. Illegal migration has overwhelmed that part of their mission.

In addition, Fox News reports that 20 to 25 migrants, plus four to five maternity patients,  are showing up at the emergency rooms of local hospitals every day. Resources are at the breaking point, yet the administration, beyond sending far too few additional agents, ignores the problems.

In short, there’s nothing new in ’22.
