Migrants Storm Border, Clash with Texas NG

On Thursday, hundreds of migrants stormed across the border into El Paso, Texas, overwhelming Texas National Guardsmen as they breached razor-wire barricades. The invaders breached the Guard’s concertina-wire barrier by covering it with clothing and cardboard.

According to the New York Post, the soldiers had been trying to organize the migrants into smaller groups when some women and children were allegedly separated from the group. The migrants then rushed the soldiers and pushed through the border, knocking over some of the Guardsmen. Once they were across, instead of arresting or deporting them, federal agents transported them to a center for “processing,” ie, admittance.

Under Texas state law — the recently passed SB 4 — state officials could have arrested the migrants for a Class B misdemeanor, which has a potential jail sentence of up to six months and — for repeat offenders — a prison sentence from two to 20 years.

Unfortunately, the US Court of Appeals has blocked enforcement of the law, even after the US Supreme Court had allowed it to be proceed.
