Christopher Gladd, a 27-year-old Washington state trooper died last Saturday when an erratically driven vehicle plowed into him. Raul Benitez Santana, a 33-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, was charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Gadd. Police said Santana admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking two beers before he got behind the wheel.
While living in Washington for the past ten years, Santana had a number of run-ins with the law. The failure to deport him may have something to do with Washington being a sanctuary state, i.e., a state which refuses to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement. Gadd leaves behind his wife, Cammryn, and a two-year-old daughter.
