Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, on Monday called on Pres. Obama to dispatch the National Guard to the border to aid the Border Patrol, overwhelmed by the flood of minor illegal aliens. “Rather than carrying out their regular duties, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and agents are put in the position of providing basic child care,” Miller wrote in a letter to Obama.
Miller noted that the Mexican drug cartels were already taking advantage of the the diversion of the Border Patrol and increasing smuggling operations. She went on to point out that Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or DREAM edict had helped spur the flood of unaccompanied minors.
