In our previous post we noted that President Biden during his State of the Nation address referred to an illegal alien as “an illegal.” He speaking about the alleged killer of a young woman in Georgia. It appeared that Biden was off script when he made the comment.

A number of Democrat lawmakers who heard him were indignant–not about the woman’s death, but his use of the word illegal. Here is what some of them said:

Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-IL): “As a proud immigrant, I’m extremely disappointed to hear President Biden use the word ‘illegal.’”

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL): “Disappointed that [President Biden] would use such dehumanizing right wing rhetoric to speak about immigrants tonight. No human being is illegal.”

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA): “Just like we should not be implementing Republican policy, we should not be repeating Republican rhetoric.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN): “Let me be clear: No human being is illegal.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus: “I wish he hadn’t . . . and used word illegal. Just like we should not be implementing Republican policy, we should not be repeating Republican rhetoric.”
