DC Mayor to Migrants: “Don’t Come — It’s a Trick!”

The District of Columbia mayor, Muriel Bowser, complained on Sunday that alleged asylum seekers are being “tricked” into boarding buses for her city. The buses, originating in border towns in Texas and Arizona, under the direction of those states’ governors, are transporting willing illegals to the nation’s capital. Texas began its program in April and by mid-June approximately 79 busloads of illegals, totalling about 2,500 individuals, had been dropped off in Washington.

According to Mayor Bowser, the homeless shelters are filling up and creating problems for her city. It was just last January that Bowser was bragging that D.C.’s homeless were numbering “only” 4,400 people. Now McPherson Square, long frequented by the homeless, is the site of a growing and apparently permanent tent city, with tents and porta-johns reportedly provided by the D.C. government.

Bowser insisted that enough is enough. The added influx from the border is unacceptable. “Local taxpayers are not picking up the tab,” she declared. “They should not pick up the tab. We really need a coordinated federal response.”

That is, of course, what Governor Abbott of Texas and Governor Ducey of Arizona have been saying for many months, while the Biden administration has done nothing but welcome more and more illegals (numbering perhaps two million during Biden’s tenure so far) into the country. Now that Democrat-run cities that had assumed themselves safely distant from the border and immune to alien-dumping are being impacted, they are complaining loudly.

Leaders in other states are beginning to follow Texas’ and Arizona’s lead, Florida and Pennsylvania among them.

Meanwhile, Bowser says she thinks the migrants really want to go to “final destinations that are not Washington, D.C.” In other words, NIMBY! There’s no room in the “Chocolate City”!
