Administration Increases H-2Bs
The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that the Trump Administration has not kept its word to reduce foreign guest worker programs that take jobs from American workers. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will raise the 2019 cap on foreign workers with H-2B visas. The CIS report stated the following reasons why this is a bad idea:
Data show that employers pay H-2B workers much less than their American counterparts.
The H-2B program distorts the labor market and artificially props up inefficient companies, giving them no incentive to reform their hiring practices.
H-2B prevents the neediest Americans (ex-convicts, recovering addicts, the homeless, high school dropouts, etc.) from securing meaningful employment that could transform their lives.
The H-2B visa is unnecessary because a domestic replacement could do the same thing.

California Leads in Poverty

Twenty percent of the state's residents are below the poverty level, and another twenty percent live in "near poverty."
