Caravan Dissolves, Migrants Keep Coming

The good news is that what was touted as the Mother of All Caravans has dissolved in Mexico. The bad news is, it doesn’t matter. The U.S. is still seeing the equivalent of at least a 7,100-member caravan crossing the border every day.

So says none other than the Department of Homeland Security, the agency that is letting it happen. DHS data confirms that the Border Patrol encountered no fewer than 222,000 illegal border crossers last month, shattering a decades-long record. Dividing that figure by the number of days in May (31) provides the rounded 7,100 estimate.

But 222,000 isn’t the whole story. It doesn’t include the estimated 50,000 who “got away” without being noticed and around 57,000 Unaccompanied Children (UACs, usually males in their late teens seeking work), which are counted separately. All told, the average number of illegal migrants crossing the border is therefore closer to 10,600. Every day.

And most are processed and admitted. Again not counting the got-aways and UACs, Breitbart’s John Binder writes:

From February 2021 to May 2022, Biden’s DHS has released more than 1.05 million border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior — twice the population of Wyoming, larger than the population of Austin, Texas, and twice the population of Atlanta, Georgia. [Emphasis added.]

Finally, Binder quotes RJ Hauman of FAIR:

Every day, the Biden administration quietly transports a flood of wage-cutting, unvetted migrants into American communities despite the court-ordered preservation of Title 42. They are simply completing the work of the cartels and smugglers at taxpayer expense.

As Uncle Walter would have said, that’s the way it is.
