A court ruling forced the Biden Administration to reinstate the “remain in Mexico” policy of the Trump Administration. That program successfully stemmed the flow of illegal aliens entering the U.S. with bogus asylum claims. Under Trump, those claiming asylum had to stay in Mexico while their claims were verified.
A spokesman for the Center for Immigration Studies that Biden’s version of remain in Mexico has “gaping loopholes” that will make it far less effective in stopping illegal immigration. If a person claims that he will face crime or persecution in Mexico, he might not have to stay there. Also, migrants who don’t speak Spanish won’t have to remain.
