You might recall that back in November the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO for short), refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s electoral “victory.” Obviously, being Mexican, AMLO recognizes a corrupt election when he sees one.
A few months later and the fait accompli by then having been widely accepted, López Obrador shrugged and held a virtual meeting with Biden on March 1. After which, he announced his conclusion regarding the new Emperor of the North.
Biden is “el presidente migrante,” he declared, “the president of migrants.” It is an apt nickname for a leader who clearly sees immigrants and illegals as his true constituency, far more deserving than mere American citizens, even those 81 million who allegedly voted for him.
AMLO says that when he shared with Biden the nickname, Biden laughed.
Nowadays, he’s laughing alone, because López Obrador is not amused. According to Reuters, Mexico’s leaders are concerned that Biden’s apparent welcome mat for migrants is “incentivizing migration” and encouraging cartels to increase human smuggling, which in turn is helping finance their drug activities. Reuters reports:
One Mexican official familiar with migration developments, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said organized crime began changing its modus operandi “from the day Biden took office” and now exhibited “unprecedented” levels of sophistication. That includes briefing clients on the latest immigration rules, using technology to outfox authorities, and disguising smuggling operations as travel agencies, assessments showed.
Another example of the gangs’ unprecedented sophistication is the use of color-coded wristbands to identify U.S.-bound migrants–red, blue, green, white, purple–and their status: paid up, entering, newly arrived, etc. These bands are typically found discarded just within the American side of the border.
Some Mexican officials, discouraged by Biden’s open-borders policies, say it is time Mexico finally did what they should have done years ago: improve their own border security with Guatemala. Such a move would at least shut off part of the Central American and “extra-continental” migrants itching to reach America. Maybe AMLO can achieve what Forgetful Joe refuses to try.
