A Tale of Two Lawsuits

Unable to wrestle any money out of Washington, NYC Mayor Adams has yet ANOTHER new idea: he’s suing the 17 bus companies that have brought roughly 33,600 illegal migrants into the city since August 2022. He wants $708 million.

Adams claims that the bus companies have violated Section 149 of the New York Social Services law which says, “Any person who knowingly brings, or causes to be brought, a needy person from out of the state into this state for the purpose of making him a public charge, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of one hundred dollars, and shall be obligated to convey such person out of the state or to support him at his own expense.”

The obvious response to that is: If you don’t want needy persons, don’t advertise yourself as a Sanctuary city that guarantees a Right to Shelter. Adams and company are reaping what they themselves have sown. It’s the pull, not the push.

The other lawsuit is one filed by the Department of Justice against the State of Texas, which has passed a law making illegal entry into the state from Mexico a state crime. The bottom line there is, it is the prerogative of the federal government to refuse to enforce all immigration laws. States must stand back and watch (and not bother northern cities by busing a few their way).

So, New York can ban the buses, but Texas can’t ban the migrants. That would sound fair only to a Biden official.
