Texas Threatens to Leave Refugee Program

Texas has threatened to withdraw from the federal refugee resettlement program if the Obama administration does not address security concerns about screening for terrorism. Robert Carey, director of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, said that if the federal government does not address those concerns, Texas will “exit” the program. His statement came after the administration announced its plan to raise refugee admissions to 110,000 a year.
