House Dems Move to Abolish ICE

A group of Democratic House members are supporting legislation to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency that does interior enforcement of U.S. immigration law. A strong supporter of this plan is Sean McElwee, co-founder of Data for Progress and originator of the slogan, “Abolish ICE.”

Said McElwee, ” Now that we have clear consensus that ICE must be abolished, it’s time for a discussion about a humane enforcement system. That means the ending the criminalization of migration, creating a fast path to citizenship, limiting the scope of CBP’s enforcement, and ending our inhumane immigration detention system. The existence if the legislation proves that within the Democratic Party there is some interest in moving away from pandering to white supremacy.
