DOJ Warns Sanctuary Cities

The Department of Justice Issued a strong warning to cities which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement. Among these sanctuary cities are New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Chicago. In a statement issued with the warnings, Attorney General Jeff Sessions affirmed that “jurisdictions that adopt so-called ‘sanctuary policies’ also adopt the view that the protection of criminal aliens is more important than the protection of law-abiding citizens and the rule of law.”

A spokesperson for New York City Council Speaker Melissa Viverito replied that “New York City will continue to do everything in our power to protect our vulnerable immigrant communities against these deranged threats. We will not be changing our policies.” The spokesperson was not quoted expressing concern for communities of citizens.
