Will Palestinians Come Here?

The current conflict in Gaza raises the possibility that many of its Palestinian inhabitants will try to flee as refugees. According to one estimate, the number could be as high as one million. The New York Post reports that “progressives” in Congress want Palestinians to come here.

One is Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) who stated that “The international community as well as the United States should be prepared to welcome refugees from Palestine while being very careful to vet and not allow members of Hamas.” Bowman failed to note that vetting refugees isn’t easy in places like Gaza where adequate records often do not exist.

Many who have studied the issue maintain that the first priority for refugee resettlement should be in nearly countries. With respect to the Palestinians, a possibility would be the Arab states along the Persian Gulf. These states have the wealth and resources to take in newcomers and a need for workers. There the Palestinians would find Muslim societies with values similar to their own.
