Weak Alien Monitoring Proposed

The administration is now proposing to water down the monitoring requirement. In recent testimony before House Homeland Security Committee, Claire Trickler-McNulty from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicated that aliens should only have to check in with ICE once a year. And in most cases they could do so electronically, rather than having to appear in person. Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan made the following comment on this proposal:

“My sources at ICE tell me that Trickler-McNulty is behind the administration’s shift from using strong compliance and tracking technologies to social service programs, and she is also attempting to close immigration detention facilities, lest we deport anyone with final orders.”
