Texas Passes Border Control Bills

The Texas House of Representatives has passed three bills to help control that state’s border with Mexico. One of the bills allocates more than $1 billion to build barriers on the border, and another increases the penalties for human trafficking. It would enable local police to arrest and deport illegal aliens. This would challenge court rulings which limit such authority to the federal government. Supporters of the bill maintain that this legal challenge is necessary given the virtually unchecked flow of illegal migrants across the Texas border.

One of those supporters, Rep. David Spille, observed that “There is nothing unfair about ordering someone back from where they came if they arrived here illegally.” The three House bills now go to the Texas Senate where passage appears likely.
