San Diego Now Busiest Sector for Illegals

The success of Texas’ Lone Star program has eased — to some degree anyway — the pressure on illegal access points in Texas such as Eagle Pass. For the past few months, the Tucson sector in Arizona had taken Texas’ place, but now the San Diego sector has assumed the dubious “lead” among border sectors.

Border Patrol officials apprehended almost 9,000 illegal migrants last week in the sector, a jump of about 7,000 from the week before. Apprehensions in the Tucson sector have fallen to about 7,000 weekly, after having averaged more than 10,000 per week for months.

During the month of March, agents encountered more than 33,000 migrants in the San Diego sector, while Tucson accounted for 42,000.

Interestingly, San Diego is experiencing both land and sea incursions, as discussed here on Monday. Earlier this week, Carlsbad, California, saw a boat loaded with more than 20 illegal migrants emptying its cargo on the beach. A local resident who witnessed the arrival said the boat narrowly missed swimmers as it was beached. He said:

I counted 22 people jumping off. It looked like a military exercise. One car, one SUV, and then ten got in it, but they left the rest behind, and they [migrants] just started walking towards Carlsbad.
