Jeb Bush Thinking Would Lead to Open Borders

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, is of the opinion that Jeb Bush may not know as much about immigration as someone who has written a book on the matter should.  Jeb Bush’s quote: “Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony; it’s an act of love.  It’s an act of commitment to your family.  I honestly think that this is a different kind of crime.”, has garnered a lot of attention, but Krikorian asserts that it underlines Bush’s lack of knowledge about immigration law.  Krikorian goes on to explain that a first illegal entry into this country is, in fact, already a misdemeanor not a felony.  Furthermore, overstaying a visa is not even a criminal matter, but a civil one.  Setting aside all of this “ignorance and illogic”, Krikorian exposes Bush’s true view on immigration.  By stating:”The way I look at this, someone who comes into our country because they couldn’t come legally…”, Bush betrays his view that America should be open to anyone who wants to come. Says Krikorian: “Stopping them is the opposite of an ‘act of love’.”
