CA Law Frees Criminal Aliens

Since the Trust Act, a California state law that directs law enforcement to release those with minor criminal records instead of holding them for federal immigration status checks, went into effect in January, the fifteen counties that have supplied data have reported a 44 percent drop in deportations.  Among these fifteen counties are four of California’s five most populated.

Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern, who is also president of the California State Sheriff’s’ Association, estimates a 70 percent drop in people turned over to ICE from county jails.  Ahren has voiced his concern on this: “Common sense will tell you people who are violating the law and taken into custody many times are responsible for unrelated crimes.”
