ENLIST Act Could Still Come Up

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said that the House may still consider the ENLIST Act as a stand-alone bill. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA,) would give amnesty to illegal aliens who enlist in the military. Prior Boehner’s statement, the House leadership had refused to allow this bill to  be attached to the National Defense Authorization Act. At present, the military has no shortage of citizen volunteers. Letting illegal aliens enlist would prevent citizens from serving. Some Washington observers believe that the ENLIST Act could be a vehicle to take the Senate’s amnesty mass immigration bill to conference committee and enable it, or a bill with most its provisions, to pass.
