AIC Foundation has long maintained that multiculturalism and “diversity” will undermine free expression and other civil liberties. With many contending factions in society, some will try to silence others whose views they don’t like.
An example comes from Britain where a journalist posted an article online containing the phrase “illegal alien.” He received a call from the police warning him that if people complained that the phrase offended them, the journalist could be charged with a “hate crime.”
He replied that his critics had called him a “Nazi” online, which he said was offensive, and asked the police spokesman if the department would consider changes against those critics. The spokesman declined to answer the question.
Thus in Britain, it seems that illegal alien advocates have more rights to expression than other people. Britain, unlike the U.S., does not have a constitutional guarantee of free speech. Unfortunately, we have have a growing number of left-wing activists who want to remove that guarantee in the name of promoting diversity. They seek to outlaw speech they hate by calling it “hate speech.”
