H-1Bs Far Exceed Official Limit
Universities and companies use loopholes to hire 100,000 more H-1B workers a year than the official cap of 85,000. Many employers prefer the foreign workers they obtain under the H-1B visa program because they can pay them less than Americans to do middle-class jobs.
European Countries Move to Slow Migrant Surge
A number of European countries are beginning to restrict entry to the great surge of migrants from the Middle East and Africa. As reported in The Washington Post, "Increasingly, nations are taking matters into their own hands, putting up policies aimed at cutting the migrant flow and weeding out all but those most at risk from war. This is taking place amid rising security fears in Europe after the terrorist attacks in Paris by assailants that included militants who disguised themselves as migrants, as well as hundreds of sexual assaults in Cologne, Germany, on New Year’s Eve in which asylum seekers are among the suspects."
Texas Attorney General: Obama Edict Unconstitutional
In response to the Supreme Court's announcement that it will rule on President Obama's edict granting legal status to million of illegal aliens, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reaffirmed that this edict is "clearly" unconstitutional. Texas is one of 26 states challenging the Obama's action in court. Paxton stated, "Congress has the constitutional authority to change the law." If the Obama edict is allowed to stand, he maintained, "then any president can come along and change any law and make Congress pretty much irrelevant."
Columnist: Elites Promote Immigration to Feel Superior
TownHall columnist Kurt Schlichter maintains that America's economic, political, and media elites promote mass immigration in order to feel morally superior to other Americans. As they do so, their privileged positions keep them from having to suffer the disadvantages of immigration such as culture-clash and unemployment. Evidently they don't view patriotism and solidarity with their fellow Americans as a moral virtue.
GOP Sends Mixed Message
The GOP in its replies to President Obama's State of the Union Speech sent a mixed message. The first one, by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, was in English. The second one, by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), was in Spanish. The languages were different, and so was the content of each. Haley's affirmed that "stopping illegal immigration" was one of party's goals, and she made no suggestion of amnesty for illegal aliens. Diaz-Balart, however, stated that America must offer a "permanent and humane solution to those who live in the shadows." This language commonly refers to amnesty.
Sessions and Brat Push GOP for Immigration Control
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Rep. Dave (R-VA) has called on GOP lawmakers to take a stand for immigration control. In a Dear Colleague letter, Sessions and Brat state that this is "the one policy that separates the views of the GOP's voters from the party's biggest donors." They further maintain that "If we want to lay out a 'bold, conservative agenda' and demonstrate that we serve the voters--and not the special interests--we should begin by advancing bill to reduce out-of-control immigration."
Refugees Charged with Ties to ISIS
Two refugees, in Texas and California, have been charged with having ties to ISIS, the Islamic terrorist organization. Commenting on these cases, Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott stated, “This is precisely why I called for a halt to refugees entering the U.S. from countries substantially controlled by terrorists. I once again urge the President to halt the resettlement of these refugees in the United States until there is an effective vetting process that will ensure refugees do not compromise the safety of Americans and Texans.”
No Evidence of Labor Shortage for H-2B Jobs
The recent federal spending bill authorized an expansion of the H-2B visa program, for seasonal workers not in agriculture. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) justified this provision by claiming that there is a shortage of these workers. The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) investigated Ryan's claim and found no evidence of a shortage.
PEGIDA Spreads through Europe

Groups associated with PEGIDA have recently formed in other European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, and Switzerland.
