Trump: The Solution Is Not to Come
When asked about the a solution to the problem of children accompanying illegal aliens who come to the U.S., President Trump responded, "Well, I have a solution. Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That's the solution. Don't come to our country illegally. Come like other people do. Come legally."
A reporter then inquired, "Is that what you're saying? You're punishing the children?" Trump replied, "I'm saying this very simply: We have laws. We have borders. Don't come to our country illegally. It's not a good thing."
Many Children Needed Separation
The Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Homeland Security ((DHS) say that nearly half of the young children taken into custody after crossing the border needed to be separated from the adults who brought them. Some of those adults were not the children's parents, and others had criminal records and posed a danger to the children. DHS cited "many instances where human traffickers have used children to cross the border to gain illegal entry.
Trump Warns Europeans
President Trump warned European leaders that they had "better watch themselves" because mass immigration is "changing the culture of Europe." He added that, "I think it's a very negative thing for Europe. I think it is very negative. And I know it's politically necessary correct to say that, but I'll say it, and I'll say it loud."
House Dems Move to Abolish ICE
A group of Democratic House members are supporting legislation to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency that does interior enforcement of U.S. immigration law. A strong supporter of this plan is Sean McElwee, co-founder of Data for Progress and originator of the slogan, "Abolish ICE."
Said McElwee, " Now that we have clear consensus that ICE must be abolished, it's time for a discussion about a humane enforcement system. That means the ending the criminalization of migration, creating a fast path to citizenship, limiting the scope of CBP's enforcement, and ending our inhumane immigration detention system. The existence if the legislation proves that within the Democratic Party there is some interest in moving away from pandering to white supremacy.
Immigrants Take Jobs from U.S. Teens
A study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that immigration (legal and illegal) is having a negative impact of the employment of U.S. teenagers. The study notes that:
"The share of U.S.-born teenagers (16 to 19) in the labor force — working or looking for work — in the summer has been declining for more than two decades, long before the downturn that began in 2007. We project that things will improve only slightly this summer. At the same time as teenage employment has declined, the overall number of immigrants (legal and illegal) holding a job has more than doubled. The evidence indicates that immigration has likely accounted for a significant share of the decline in teen labor force participation. The decline in teen work is worrisome because research shows that those who do not hold jobs as teenagers often fail to develop the work habits necessary to function in the labor market, creating significant negative consequences for them later in life."
Trump Nominates Kavanaugh
President Trump nominated Judge Brent Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. In his written opinions Kavanaugh has indicated sympathy for enforcement of immigration law and the belief that immigration restriction serves to protect American workers.
Abolish ICE Means Abolish Borders
The movement among Democrats to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is one that conceals its real objective, says Mark Krikorian, who heads the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).
He notes, "The point of abolishing ICE is to end all non-criminal deportations of illegal aliens. That would mean that every foreigner who manages to slip past the Border Patrol or who overstays a visa would be permitted to stay forever, so long as he isn't convicted of an especially heinous crime.
"That would render our entire body of immigration law meaningless. The numerical caps on various categories and the requirements to qualify would be irrelevant because there be no agency to enforce them. #AbolishICE means nothing if not unlimited immigration and open borders."
Border Crossings Declined in June
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that illegal border crossings declined in June. DHS Press Secretary Tyler Q. Houlton noted, "Following the implementation of the Administration's zero tolerance policy, the June 2018 Southwest Border Migration numbers declined by 18 percent when compared to the previous month. DHS will continue to enforce the rule of law and uphold our nation's immigration laws as passed by Congress."
Poll: Most Favor Enforcement
A vocal group of Democrats is proposing to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency that enforces immigration law. A Harvard-Harris poll asked registered voters if they believed that ICE should be disbanded. Sixty-nine percent said no, and 31 percent said yes. The poll also asked respondents if immigration law enforcement should be strengthened or weakened. Seventy percent called for strengthened enforcement and 30 percent were for less.
Mexico Elects Radical President
Mexico has elected Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a radical leftist as its president. On the topic of migration Obrador has stated, "[S]oon, very soon, after the victory of our movement, we will defend migrants from all over the American continent and the world who, by necessity, have to leave their towns to look for a [better] life in the United States. It is their human right that we are going to defend."
Some commentators are concerned that Obrador will try push Mexico in the direction of Venezuela. Thanks to radical socialist governments, that once relatively prosperous country has collapsed into deep poverty. If Mexico follows that path, the United States will face a new surge of Mexican illegal immigration.
