Judge Blocks Deportations

A federal district judge has blocked the Trump Administration from deporting 240, 000 immigrants. They are here under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) which allowed them to stay in the U.S. temporarily due to natural disasters and violent upheaval in their countries. The administration ordered them to go home because conditions in their homelands are now suitable for them to return.

Judge Edward Chen maintains that the administration cannot enforce the law because he thinks it may be motivated by racial bias. The Justice Department replied that Chen’s decision “usurps the role of the executive” in handling matters elated to immigration and promised to challenge that decision in court.
