Border Officially Re-Opens; The Rush is On

This morning at 12:01 EST, in accord with an executive order issued on October 25, the 50 official crossing points along the U.S. Mexican border–along with those along our Canadian border–are now open to non-essential travel.

The border crossings had been closed, officially, to all but “essential” travel for the past 20 months due to pandemic restrictions. This closure, of course, had no impact on illegal crossings, which numbered in the single month of October 2021 up to 400,000. Nevertheless, it did deter enough would-be crossers from Mexico that U.S. officials are now bracing for a surge across the border, although the re-openings actually apply only to travelers otherwise permitted to cross, not asylum seekers.

Jose Garcia, head of migrant shelter Movimiento Juventud 2000 in Tijuana, described the migrants’ thinking: “We have explained to them that the reopening of the border is for people who have papers, a visa to cross and it’s not a reopening for people to cross and ask for asylum and humanitarian aid. They haven’t listened to us and they don’t want to wait.”

Once again, the Biden adminstration by its own actions is encouraging illegal entry into our country. This cannot be explained by mere stupidity. There is a method to their madness. With each step, they are in effect erasing our borders.
