Abbot May Challenge Plyer

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is considering a legal challenge to the 1982 Supreme Court ruling known as Plyer v. Doe. This decision mandated free public education for children who are not legal residents of the U.S. The suit establishing Plyer was brought by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, an illegal alien advocacy group.

Abbot stated that the costs to taxpayers to educate these pupils has soared since the Count’s decision. It has led, said Abbott, “to education obligations, as well as other obligations that are simply unsustainable and unaffordable.”
